WHO WE ARE: Lee's Greens, LLC is owned and operated by Lee Matteson. Lee's Greens is a small 7 acre farm with 2 acres of heated greenhouses located between Nevada and Colo, Iowa on Lincoln Highway. The main focus is growing produce off-season in raised soil beds in heated greenhouses. We also grow fruits and vegetables outside on the remaining 5 acres.
WHAT WE GROW: Lee's Greens provides fresh, locally grown, high quality produce from heated greenhouses during off-season production times. For example - salad greens from Sept through May. Early tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, and cucumbers starting in April through August. Outside produce is grown during the normal growing season which includes rhubarb, berries, and vegetable crops.
OUR GROWING PRACTICES: Lee's Greens uses chemicals only when needed. Most crops that are grown in the greenhouses do not require chemicals. If it becomes necessary to control an insect or disease problem, organic biological chemicals are utilized if possible following current Integrated Pest Management practices and following all the rules and regulations associated with their use. All greenhouse beds are filled with field soil. Supplemental liquid fertilizer is used as necessary. Compost from greenhouse waste is added to increase fertility. All greenhouse crops are watered with drip irrigation to conserve water use. Most field crops also utilize drip irrigation as well.
What is a CSA? CSA stands for community supported agriculture. By paying the cost of your share up-front, this help provide funds for the farmer to purchase seed, plants, equipment, etc before the start of the season. In return, your payment provides you with a weekly share of produce. The farmer will do their best to supply you with a variety of fresh, locally-grown, seasonal produce. However, you are taking the risk of crop failure with the farmer and that there is no guarantee of the exact amount, size, or type of produce that will end up in your share.
Unpack, inspect and refrigerate as needed all the produce in your share box. Please report any problems as soon as possible. Prepare all produce using safe food handling practices.
If a share does not get picked up, the produce will be used as we see fit. We will try to accommodate arrangements made ahead of time for alternate pick-up.
